Windows 8 x128 !!!?? – The next PC revolution has is begun!
Sep 24, 2009 Windows 8 News
In my endless search for tiny details hidden behind the scenes at Microsoft via linkedin, I came across a Microsoft Senior Research & Development employee: Mr. Morgan. I guess Microsoft employees need some training about exposing company secrets! He posted a few updates in the last 3 days to his linkedin profile that I find extremely interesting:
“Robert Morgan is working to get IA-128 working backwards with full binary compatibility on the existing IA-64 instructions in the hardware simulation to work for Windows 8 and definitely Windows 9.”
“Robert Morgan is using Hestia (custom software package) for experimenting with the processor for scientific analysis and 3D graphics. Error: Memory Latency? Always gotta be a challenge barrier, it’s gotta be a bug in Hestia. right?!”
“Robert Morgan is frustrated with process standards and regulations! Delays Delays!”
I added Mr. Morgan to my LinkedIn friends list, but he has not responded to any messages I sent to him. WOW what a find: WINDOWS 8 128 BIT! That’s Insane!!!! Didn’t we just get x64 less than 5 years ago? But, let’s face it we are in a recession; the next big products won’t be released until companies are ready to take a risk, but based on this they are far ahead of where we are today in the lab. Stay Tuned, I’ll try to find more, but I don’t think I can top this, Windows 8 x128 is a big deal

Holy Crap, why isn’t this all over the news or other Windows 8 News sites? surely others found this if he’s been on linkedin for awhile and where are all the bloggers to confirm all this??

This will still take years to get released. should I even buy a 64bit computer now, thank god he says he’s working on making 128 work with 64 bit.

@lorinc: I actually ran across this LinkedIn listing prior to seeing it here. I made the post, Googled for 128-bit Windows and saw it here. That’s when I updated my post to reflect that it had been posted here previously. The reputable French site, pcimpact, posted theirs in reference to my article.
When it comes to scouring through LinkedIn profiles, I’m essentially the one who got that ball rolling for everyone. The problem is, everyone seems to be doing it now and pretending they’ve been tirelessly doing it all along. Truth is, my blog is the source for a heck of a lot of the Windows 8 information out there but everyone wants to take the credit.
If you want the proof, pop this in Google, click for the cached page and compare the dates of my original posts to anywhere you can find the same story online:
site:uxevangelist.blogspot.com “Windows 8″
Now, having said all of that, I’m not some egomaniacal gloryhound. Far from it. I’ve just had my content ripped without proper credit for far too long now and knowing how it feels, I thought I would set the record straight here and correct any misconception that I made my post being fully aware of the content existing here.
And, yes, I just changed my blog from UX Evangelist to Microsoft Kitchen – just in case you were wondering. Thanks for reading.

This news is interesting because we always thought Windows 7 would be the last release that had 32-bit and 64-bit versions. This was brought on by the fact that Windows Server 2008 R2, the server version of Windows 7, was the first Windows Server release to be 64-bit only. The next client version of Windows should therefore follow suit, but apparently Microsoft is going to prepare it for 128-bit as well. We’re not saying Windows 8 will definitely come in 64-bit and 128-bit flavors, but Microsoft is moving down that path, and at the very least, Windows 9 will. [...]

It is exceptionally unlikely he’s talking about 128-bit memory addressability (even though it does say IA-128… interesting). We’re so far off from the limits of the 64-bit memory space hardware-wise (think of the number of memory sticks!)… heck, NTFS itself is only 64-bit (theoretical), and we’re not really pushing that limit yet. My guess is that he’s talking about the 128-bit *FPU* in AMD’s coming “Bulldozer” processors: http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2009/4/15/amds-next-gen-bulldozer-is-a-128-bit-crunching-monster.aspx.

Why should we care about IA-128, or even IA-64?
They are present only on Itanium processors, and are NOT compatible with x86 and x64 !
From my knowledge Itanium processor are found only on few Servers, so if you don’t own such a server, I don’t see why should you care about this…
For now only Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 support IA-64…

Gee it’s about time, 64bit processors have been around since the late 1960’s. I worked on IBM’s 360/65 then. I’m surprised that we aren’t running 256bit parallel computers by now! This 128bit isn’t any big shock just natural evolution. We have run 32bit into the the ground and need to move on.

Hi Guys,
Just stumbled upon this site. It looks cool and I think I will be having a good time over here.
