It is estimated that there will be more than two billion PCs in use by 2015.* Imagine that environmental impact if 75% of these computers use Microsoft’s Windows 8. If designed even slightly more power hungry then they could be what waste would that create?
Should Microsoft spend more time researching better options for little things? I could point out any major company with a global product, but Windows 8 will be my example, since this is a Windows 8 blog.
We all are for being green and protecting the world. Not many of us acknowledge or are even willing to acknowledge basic things we do and use every day are adding to the possible global problems. Microsoft isn’t solely to blame, even you reading this blog are not only wasting time but also using resources contributing to green house gases. Does that make you and I evil?
Windows 8 and other products that have mass influence need to be created properly or weight the impact! Same with oil and gas, everyone uses it freely without much thought. The consequences of our actions, our neighbors’ actions, and corporations such as Microsoft’s actions designing Windows 8 will come more visible as the effect of these actions do more damage. We do not have an answer for these complex problems, but I hope we keep thinking of a solution.
I picked on Microsoft and Windows 8, but honestly, you could replace that with any major product. Ask yourself, how do we measure if Windows 8 was designed properly? If we can’t, should we try?
