Why are we passionate about technology? For me the magic, the freedom, and inspiration of technology lets me connect my thoughts to great people at great distances and the knowledge of the world at my fingertips. Technology lets you stand out from a crowded room. Every few years an extraordinary awesome technology becomes a game changer, the world changes before few realize what happened. With passion come future technology dreams of flying cars, clean energy, and thoughts about technology in factories five, ten, or twenty years out.
Predicting the future always involves looking at history. Looking into the past, we are advancing faster than ever before. It amazes me that only 150 years ago we developed powered flight, 15 years ago massive usage of the Internet, and on and on. Why are we increasing technology so quickly? In my opinion, it’s not good enough anymore to have technology be everything for everyone. Before It was safe to be very general, sell one product and take time to make it right. Now we focus on narrow markets and take risks. With these risks come uncertainty and quick unexpected changes with more success and more failure.
Stop and think for a moment. What is present technology? What will you still be using in two years? Probably not many products you use now will be competitive soon. With everything moving so fast how will you stand out? Do you need to? Yes.
