Computers were scarce when Microsoft gained a sustainable advantage in the operating system environments. Now that home computers are abundant, we will see a shift from a Microsoft dominate operating system market into a balance between operating systems. We think Windows 8 will be the operating system that shares in the decline of this hold Microsoft has. Competition is right around the corner…
Why develop an operating system? We think they control the user’s attention towards selling things indirectly. Apple LOVES you going to iTunes! So, what will this soap opera of controlling users bring? The revenue generated by these operating systems and the control over the users shows the motivation individual companies can generate to come up with solutions to niche operating system markets. The developers are slowly rolling away from Microsoft branded operating systems.
How can Microsoft keep its dominance? Scarcity by increasing prices or locking in to Microsoft branded hardware, Apple style. The crossroads won’t be easy; it will cost a lot of money! This is quite normal for the majority phase of the operating system market. It will be only a matter of time before you may consider using a Chinese made operating system.
Always crossroads, Windows 8 doesn’t change anything
